Basic Needs

In our country, right from Independence efforts are being made to full fill the basic needs of the villages. 'Five year plans' have been put and funds are provided. New schemes are also introduced now & then. New Government machinery setup like Block Development Offices was established to understand people issues and to work closely with them. But still, basic facilities for people are not addressed in many Indian villages. Kuthambakkam was also facing the same kind of problem before the new panchayat came into existence in 1996.

After the new panchayat came to existence, the basic needs like Road facilities, Water facilities were addressed. Low cost houses with Innovative methods were built. Now Kuthambakkam has become a hut less village.

Road facilities

• All inner roads up to 8000 meters length in all the residential areas of the Kuthambakkam panchayat had been converted into concrete roads through 'Nammaku Naame' scheme and equalization incentive grant support.
• The rest of the roads were converted into asphalt roads using various schemes like MLA constituency development fund, MPLADS funds, District panchayat funds and panchayat union general fund.

Sanitation

• Open sewage in Kuthambakkam south had been converted to granite walled drains.
• A big storm water drain was formed in Kuthambakkam south along the chetipedu main road.
• Drainages were constructed at all the required places in Kuthambakkam south and central Kuthambakkam.
• Drainages were constructed at all the streets in Kuthambakkam north
• Flood water drainage was constructed across the main road in Irullapalayam and drainage channels were constructed at the inner area of Irullapalayam
• Women toilet complex was constructed and maintained well in Kuthambakkam north

Water Distribution

• Quality drinking water is ensured to all the families in the panchayat.
• Three new overhead tanks were constructed in Utkottai, Samathuvapuram and Kannadapalayam with the support of Tamilnadu Water supplies Drainages Department. The distribution of water is going on well in these areas.

• All the streets are provided with lights using the funds from panchayats and also from other various government schemes
