Education
Every child has right for his/her education. This is not just a slogan. It has become a reality in Kuthambakkam. It is ensured that all the children of age below 14 are attending school. The effort by the panchayat and the cooperation from parents made this possible. The infrastructure development was done to give children a good learning atmosphere. Good flooring with tiles pasted, paintings with moral messages in the school compound wall, racks for the library and computer facilities are giving children an urge to learn. The panchayat and the local people themselves together ensure that none of the children drop out from schools. This was made possible by the coordination between the local residents and the school. Teachers attend Grama Sabha regularly. It helps them to understand the social and family background of their students.
Human Resource Development Center for Village Reconstruction [HRDCVR]
The Kuthambakkam panchayat has established good infrastructure and basic facilities in the schools. The Trust for Village Self Governance [TVSG] also works with the village panchayat. There are no dropouts in the school and punctuality is ensured among teachers and students. While working closely with the community we found that parents of the poor children are not having motivation on their kids gaining extra knowledge. The quality of basic education to the poor children is still in question. Particularly, the poor people of the marginalized communities are not showing enough interest in their children's education. To address these issues, we consulted many educationalists and found that the interactive education through computer aided programs on school level education and personality development will bring good results. We also found many good e-learning materials developed by Azim Premji foundation, IL&FS, Dr.Ashok Junjunwhala of IIT Madras etc., could help our children learn easily and quickly. We have also decided to give our children and women good knowledge on computer basics, English language and general knowledge. To educate and empower our children and women, we have established an e-learning center in our village. This center is also used to educate Farmers, Youths and Panchayat leaders.
Following are the programs to be handled in the center:
- Education to School Children
- Women empowerment programmes
- Panchayat Development programmes
- Agriculture Development programmes
- Youth Development programmes
- Coaching for Competitive exams.
- Meditation and other motivational programs
- The Impact made by the programmes in HRDCVR is very much visible. The children get motivated to study and to learn new things. The reasoning ability of the children is seen to increase. The dropout of students is also expected to reduce, particularly in IX and X standards. While teaching the dropout youths to continue their education, the chances of youth becoming a liability to the society will be reduced to a greater extent. The passed students will be concentrating on continuing their further studies. The benefits of education like knowledge improvement attaining good degrees and diplomas and better employment will be seen in the community.
This will help for the sustainable social and economic development and ensures community participation and contribution. In future, more and more centers like this will emerge in the surrounding villages.
