Energy Efficiency

By using CFL based energy efficient lamps, the panchayat saves two third of the electric power. CFL Lamps are used in all streetlights in the panchayat. 320 such street lights at Kuthambakkam results in savings of Rs.15, 000 per month on electricity.

• Power per day = 58 watts x 200 Lamps x 12 hours = 140 kwts
• For a month = 140 x 30 = 4200 kwts
• At rate of Rs.3.0 = Rs.12, 600

For 200 lights = 200 x 18 x 12 x 30 = 1296 Kwts

At the rate of Rs.3.0 = Rs.3, 888

Savings =Rs.12, 600 - 3,888 = 8712

% Of saving = 69%

Total saving of electricity is 69%

• More electricity is saved using solar lamps in the panchayat.
• An innovative method of running 1 HP motors instead of 5 HP motors is practiced to pump water through which more than 50% electricity is saved
