Health
- The Kuthambakkam panchayat has built very good relationships with the neighboring medical institutions. Saveetha Hospital and Medical College is running a Rural health center in Kuthambakkam which includes dental care facilities also.
- An innovative way of medical care to the local community is taking place in Kuthambakkam. A first year student of Saveetha Medical College will adopt a family in Kuthambakkam. They will follow the medical history of the family till he/she completes the course in the college. The student will assist the family members on all health issues. After the completion of the course, the student will give his/her job to juniors. This gives a good continuous medical care for the village people.
- We know caste system still prevails in India. It may not be much visible in cities. But the caste clashes and discrimination based on caste still exists in villages. To address this issue and to prove that even in villages people of different casts can live together friendly and peacefully an experiment was made in Kuthambakkam. The experiment of building a residential area, where people with different casts live together was proposed by Kuthambakkam panchayat to the Tamilnadu Government in 1996.
- The Tamilnadu Government appreciated the initiative and the Samathuvapuram Scheme was launched. Kuthambakkam got a Samathuvapuram sanctioned. As the result of committed effort for land allocation, finding beneficiaries, introducing new architectural models this Samathuvapuram has become one of the best out of 140 Samathuvapurams built across Tamilnadu.
- Kuthambakkam Samathuvapuram has set an example of people's participation in building a community residence.
- Village women have been organized as Self Help Groups. These women have been trained for producing various small scale livelihood productions like Energy efficient Stove burners, Packaging of First Aid Kits, Production of Micro concrete roof tiles, spinning of Hammocks, production of soaps, production of coconut oils and breaking of cereals.
- Now these women know the way for generating income for their livelihood. They are not dependent on anybody. These skills have given them confidence in themselves. More than that, they are taking up added responsibility in the family and the over all village development
